Hello from the Volleyball Club!
Thanks for showing your interest in our Club and I hope you all had a brilliant time during the Freshers week and a very 'Welcome back' to the returning students. Hope you had a wicked summer! I need to mention a couple of things to everyone, so please bear with me and read the next few paragraphs...
First of all, if you really are keen to play volleyball, please pay the membership fee if you have not already done so!! It's only £15 for the entire academic year, so it really is a bargain!! If you have not yet registered your blue UWESU card online, you will need to do that before paying. I've left details at the end of this email with the steps to go through to register and pay. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY WITHOUT THE 'Volleyball 07/08' 'STICKER ON THE BACK OF YOUR BLUE UWESU CARD.
Second, our first training will be on Tuesday from 7pm-9pm (men only) and on Wednesday from 7pm-9pm (women only). Men and women who were in the first team last year are welcome to come to go through the training plan for this year and to play a bit on Wednesday from 9pm-10.30pm.
In terms of training, I am hoping to speak to our coaches on Wednesday, so hopefully we will be able to get a better picture of how the training will go. Our 2 coaches have been coaching last year and are both very experienced players as well as qualified coaches. Paul Locke will be coaching the ladies' team and George Petrasch, the mens'.
I'll let you know all the details about our social nights as soon as we will sort that out :)
Thanks for reading through this! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me back or text me on: 07772033857.We also have a website at: http://uwevolleyball.weebly.com
which is being constantly updated to keep everyone informed. We also have a Facebook group called 'UWE VOLLEYBALL SOCIETY' so please feel free to join us there as well :)
Cheers,
Justine
(Women's team captain and Club's secretary)
(1) How to (a) register with UWESU if you haven't done so already and (b) pay the membership fee online, which is naturally the easiest way of becoming a member. Let me walk those of you who haven't done this through the process. Anyone else, please skip ahead to the next paragraph. (a) If you have not registered your blue NUS card on the UWESU website and have received your unique UWESU number, you will need to register with the Student Union. To register with UWESU, visit http://www.uwesu.net/register and follow the steps on-screen. Once you have registered, make a note of your UWESU number, as you will need to write this on your blue card. (If you do not have an blue card, you will need to go to the 4th floor of the Student Union building on Frenchay campus to get one)
(b) After registering , you will need to pay for your membership. Log-on to your account at http://www.uwesu.net/ and on the left of the screen on your account page, click on the Sports & Societies link. On the new page, choose "Volleyball" from the drop-down menu and click "JOIN". The page will reload and you should now see "Volleyball" in the section above under the title "Incomplete Memberships". Now click "SAVE" at the bottom of the page, after first filling in the rest of the section, to get to the final step. You should now see the "Volleyball" in the "Your Memberships" section. There will be an option next to it saying "Add to Cart". Click on this. Then, on the left of the screen, click on "View Basket". Follow the remaining steps to purchase the club membership. After you have done this, you will not necessarily need to print out anything, just take your filled-out blue UWESU card to the 5th floor of the Student Union block and they will check online to confirm you have paid. Anyway, that is covered next...
(2) OK, so assuming that you have registered and paid, you now need to get a volleyball sticker on the back of your blue UWESU card. To do this, take your UWESU card to the 5th floor of the Student Union building, the Activities Centre (this is in F Block - directly above the student two bars) and any staff there will be able to give your card the sticker by looking up your details online to make sure you have paid.

A letter from our dear coach Paul!
---------------------------------------------
Hello All,
I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and that you are now looking forward to the new volleyball season that is now upon us.
The UWE Women's training will commence on Wednesday 3rd October 2007 from 7.00 pm to 10.30 pm. We have been given an extra 90 mins of training each week to take us up to 10.30 pm. This will be reviewed after the first month to check on the numbers that are attending. If the numbers are low then we will lose the additional time. So, will everyone please recruit as many players or potential players as possible to come to the first sessions.
We can chat about the plans and ideas that we have, including entry into the Bristol and District League and the BUSA competition.
If you have any questions about the training next season then please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to seeing you all on the 3rd October at 7.00 pm.
Many thanks,
Paul Locke.

Hey all,
Just a reminder that it's Welcome Weekend this weekend - which is a fab opportunity for you to get your committee members in kit and talk to the Fresher's about how brilliant all your clubs are. The activities centre will be open as will the bars on St Matts, Glenside and Frenchay. All you need to do is turn up, drink and talk!
Hope to see you here!!
Good luck for next week!
Lily
